چکیده

The measurement system for the pressure between the blade of a laryngoscope and the upper airway tract during orotracheal intubation has been investigated with a film of microcapsules. Two types of the laryngoscope were used in the study: WisForegger and Mac-Intosh. The film is attached on the surface of the blade of the laryngoscope. The measurement was applied to 20 cases of the orotracheal intubation. In the pressed part of the film, the microcapsules burst and release chemicals, which react with chemicals out of microcapsules and show a red color. The color density was photoelectrically measured, and converted to the pressure value in three regions on the blade; the epiglottis, the tongue, and the upper incisor. The results show that the pressures are 1.2±0.6 MPa on the epiglottis, 0.8±0.4 MPa on the tongue, and (11±3)×10 MPa on the upper incisor, and that the pressures on the epiglottis are 2.0±0.3 MPa in bled cases, and 0.8±0.4 MPa in non-bled cases.

Effects of cervical spine immobilization technique and laryngoscope blade selection on an unstable cervical spine in a cadaver model of intubation.

STUDY OBJECTIVE Orotracheal intubation (OTI) is commonly used to establish a definitive airway in major trauma victims, with several different cervical spine immobilization techniques and laryngoscope blade types used. This experimental, randomized, crossover trial evaluated the effects of manual in-line stabilization and cervical collar immobilization and 3 different laryngoscope blades on cer...

Manual in-line stabilization increases pressures applied by the laryngoscope blade during direct laryngoscopy and orotracheal intubation.

BACKGROUND Manual in-line stabilization (MILS) is recommended during direct laryngoscopy and intubation in patients with known or suspected cervical spine instability. Because MILS impairs glottic visualization, the authors hypothesized that anesthesiologists would apply greater pressure during intubations with MILS than without. METHODS Nine anesthetized and pharmacologically paralyzed patie...

Comparison of Miller and Airtraq laryngoscopes for orotracheal intubation by physicians wearing CBRN protective equipment during infant resuscitation: a randomized crossover simulation study.

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of orotracheal intubation with the Miller laryngoscope compared with the Airtraq laryngoscope by emergency and pediatric physicians wearing CBRN-PPE type III on infant manikins with conventional airway. We hypothesized that in this situation, the orotracheal intubation with the Airtraq laryngoscope would be faster and more eff...

Reply to “Comparing Shikani Optical Stylet and Macintosh Laryngoscope for Orotracheal Intubation”

To the Editor: We thank Dr. Wang, et al.[1] for the comments in our article. With regard to the first comment point, we agreed with them that Cormack‐Lehane grades 3–4 with Macintosh laryngoscope should be defined as difficult laryngoscopy. The definition of difficult airway in our paper should be difficult laryngoscopy, not difficult airway.[1] The laryngeal classification (Macintosh 3–4 blade...

بررسی شیوع آسیب به دندانها حین لوله‌گذاری تراشه بوسیله لارینگوسکوپ مکینتاش استاندارد در مقایسه با لارینگوسکوپ مکینتاش تغییریافته

ABSTRACT The Macintosh Laryngoscope has proved itself over half a century and is still one of the most popular laryngoscopes. Even in experienced hands, however, complications can occur notably damage to the maxillary incisors. Damage to teeth is reported to be the most common single reason for complaints against anesthesiologists. Dental injuries could be caused by friction or by contac...
